Infant Program

Back to Programs

The infant room offers a variety of age-appropriate activities for children up to approximately 14 or 15 months of age. Many of our activities are short and easy to do. They can be done while taking care of basic needs, such as feeding and diaper changing.

As an example, while feeding, the caregiver may point to her nose, eyes and mouth, and then point to the child’s nose, eyes and mouth. After repeating this a few times, the baby begins to point to the caregiver’s nose, eyes and mouth, and will mimic the sounds that will soon become words.

Working equally well for younger infants is singing songs during diaper changes. We also have pictures on the floor and at the children’s eye level to stimulate looking, listening and talking.

We offer a wide range of materials for developing fine motor skills and sensory perception. Some are commercial toys such as baby gyms, snap-together beads and activity quilts. Staff members also have created toys including our favorite, plastic bottles filled with bells, balls, water, etc. What wonderful sounds these toys make!

From our daily walks inside and outside (weather permitting), to Cool Whip art, playing peek-a-boo, blowing and popping bubbles, reading books and singing songs, our infant room is a very busy and happy place to be.
